Orientation

September 29
--I arrive and the dancers are sitting on a wall at the edge of the Grove. Michelle H. says, “They all congregated around this architectural structure.” That seems relevant but I’m not sure why. (Pete's notes)

Still doing their warm-ups, the class is facing Michelle. She stands directly in front of a light post in the grove. Even with all the open space, the class has centered themselves around a man-made architectural structure. (Michelle's notes, 9/29)

00:09-00:50 - Michelle actually says "rooted" and the dancers discuss it (Pete's video footage, 10.6.08; 22-31-33-5)

00:00 -  (Pete's video footage, 10.6.08; 22-31-33-8)

--During the discussion, one of the dancers involved in that improv says she felt pulled and in pain, her body doing things that weren’t comfortable and being rubbed and poked by roots, but then something “popped” and she “gave in to the ground” like she “became a root.” (from Pete's notes, day 4, Oct 8).
